As a matter of fact, is it still difficult to resolve enantiomers? It seems like the basic tools have long since been made standard to chemists.

As I understand things it depends on the enantiomer. And the point here is that prior art teaching regarding racemic mixture resolution generically cannot provide (by itself) the requisite reasonable expectation of success under the Supreme Court's interpretation of the statute to support an obviousness determination.
